Shure SM-57 Cable options

Hey all, i'm soon to be buying a Shure SM-57 microphone for micing up my guitar amp for recording.

I thought that the Sm-57 would come with a cable, but after looking at the pdf manual file it says that cables can be purchased as 'additional items'.

So, does anyone know a reliable cable? If it's possible i will need the imput jack(into my computer) to be one of those really small ones lol I don't know the correct measurement in inches, but it's the usual type that will fit into the back of a PCI soundcard.

I'd like a high quality cable that's at least 10m long if possible that isn't going to have huge signal loss etc.

I'm in the UK, if anyone reading this is from the UK too could you possibly recommend me a cable model and a reliable uk retailer? At the moment i'm thinking i'm going to get the equipment from gak.co.uk

Thanks very much guys!

Edit: I'm pretty sure the measurement for pci soundcard imput jacks is a 1/8" imput. I'm aware of the adapters you can get to go from 1/4" to 1/8" if there's no cable that already has one 1/8" jack and a jack to plug into the Shure SM-57. Thanks.

sorry to break this to you, but microphones use XLR connectors

you can't plug it straight into anything with a 1/4" or 1/8" jack; the impedance doesn't match with those. you'd need to get a mic preamp, or use the mic with a mixer that directly takes XLR connections.

as far as cables, anything goes. monster cables, mogami, dimarzio, etc

You can get mic cables ending in 1/4" jack plugs. You don't need XLR inputs. Although you will need a mic pre of some description, the impedance per se is not the issue.

find a local electronics store, privately owned. get him to build your cables. no more messing about with adaptors, save loads of money over the years.

i run an sm57 straight into my minidisc recorder and get perfectly good songwriting reference recordings, anywhere.
