soundforge and acidpro users..

When creating backrounds for your tracks with soundforge and acid pro, do you use an external sound module for the midi tracks or just the sound bits from the software? I need very realistic sounding parts...(esp. drums) I write all drum parts out myself..as I have experiene with that..I dont want to just loop pre existing patterns.

www.fruityloops.com

Download their sequencer, and give the "realistic" kit a try. It's not bad on it's own, but add a good, high-quality reverb on top, and it's quite convincing. (SF doesn't cut it; cool edit pro sounded better to my ears.) Alternately, if you can find some good samples of a full kit elsewhere, you can sequence using them.

This isn't exactly the world's best sequencer, but it's more than enough for most applications.

I agree about Fruity Loops. If your pc is fast enough, the built in rack effects units are very good. The delays, compressors, and other filters work exceptionally. Beware though- they will choke your pc if it's slower than about 800MhZ.

I use Fruity Loops for all of my sequencing and backing tracks. Then I use Sound Forge to record my guitar parts. I put them all together and master them in Cool Edit Pro.

I was looking at sound forge 6.0...and Im getting a system that's at least 1.6 ghz, 512 mb ddr sd ram..etc. if that helps. I didnt know sound forge had a multi track recorder, I've only see it mention editing capabilities. (which on 6.0 are far more than 5.0 ) I'm new to the computer recording scene..so bare with me for a bit. I'm pretty sure from what a lot of people have told me that sound forge 6.0's what Im looking for. So in general opinion is it better to use sound forge as the multitrack recorder as well? I've been told sonar's great but are the two compatible? (ie, can I create loops and backrounds in soundforge 6.0 and trasport that over to sonar and add guitar parts? I just want to be able to adjust individual things...not have one big backround track.

I never knew SF could do multitracking... can it? or is this new with 6.0? I've been using 5.0 for a while now for editing and mastering, and never noticed anything like that...

I actually just use Fruity loops for the creation of loops; usually just drums, but every once in a while i'll do some stratch key pads with it (i don't use synths on finished recodings; i multitrack and process the heck out of direct-recorded guitars to get the same effect, it's more fun. ) I then use Acid to assemble backings. I find this is the most flexible solution for me...

Well Vegas LE comes with most Acid Pro programs (as well as Sound Forge LE) and Vegas is a great Multitracker to use. I still use 4 ADATS though for my main tracks and then have Acid synched <--sp? through my BRC using MIDI time code o I dont use any of my other tracks. If there is something I REALLY want to edit onmy guitar tracks I can always record it into Acid but thats pretty rare.

For pure hard disk recording though I think Vegas works great.
