Let me dig up pix of the old studio from the 80's.... MCI 24 2", Studer mastering machine...u47's with power supplies, old Boyer ribbons,
Trident and Allen & Heath consoles,....BEEN THERE BUDDY.

Once you learn that lesser gear can approximate 98% of the big boy toys, you magically have more money in your pocket, and unless you're doing a major label gig - you don't need to spend everything you have on gear. ;^)

That's a Mackie SD24/96. I originally had the HD, but it had issues and this was in stock so I took it. Nice little recorder...

************************************************** ****************

Mackie SD24/96 24 Track Digital Recorder

A solution for live, as well as home or project studio, recording,
built with a high-performance record engine.

The SDR24/96 takes its place as the newest member of Mackie's family of hard disk recorders that currently includes both the MDR 24 /96 and the HDR 24/96.

The SDR24/96 has processing power for 24 simultaneous channels at 24-bit/48kHz or 12 channels at 24-bit/96kHz. An internal IDE hard drive provides storage for up to 90 minutes of 24-track recording while an on-board drive bay will accommodate the same Mackie Media M-90 pullout disks and Mackie Media Project drives used by the MDR24/96 and HDR24/96.
Front panel controls are fashioned after familiar tape-based systems. But, unlike tape-based recorders, the new SDR24/96 benefits from true, non-linear recording and editing capabilities. Non-linear recording allows the SDR24/96 to record multiple versions of a track or track segment without destroying the original, nothing is lost. During playback, the recorder recombines the non-linear segments into a seamless stream of audio. In addition, the SDR24/96 is able to significantly increase recording time per gigabyte by efficiently using only the space needed for actual audio.
Ready to use right out of the box, the SDR24/96 comes with fixed rear panel inputs and outputs that include 24 channels of analog via six DB-25 ports, ADAT optical, MIDI I/O for MMC and MTC, SMPTE, and clock inputs and outputs. Also included is a USB port for export of standard .wav files to PC or Macintosh computers. The SDR24/96 is also fully compatible with the new Mackie MicroRemote Controller ($99.00 U.S.) and the existing Remote24.

With features such as cut/copy/paste track editing, multiple un-dos, Sony 9-pin support, and compatibility with multiple remote controllers, the SDR offers professional-level features in a very easy-to-use interface. All analog and digital I/O are built right into the back panel, so integration with mixing consoles and/or digital audio workstations is quick and painless. The SDR is also small and portable enough to be carried from gig to gig. And because the SDR supports tried and true Mackie Media back-up drives, all media are interchangeable from one Mackie recorder to the other.

dude im sorry but if you think a 414 is 98% of a u47 (i own 2 414's.
a buls and a eb w/ c12 capsule, and a lawson L-47mp)

or an allen and heath is 98% of the same
thing as ...
a trident/ or a neve (i used to work in an 80's series occasionally, and i currently own Neve 1272 pre's and API pres)

then i just dont know what to say man.
I guess im just beyond prosumer gear.

Enjoy your studio. Sincerely.

Thanks, I will.
See, I'm past that stage in life where a Neve is the only thing that will suffice. I'm only doing home recordings - a Neve or a Neuman just isn't needed for that. You are comparing apples to oranges -with a condescending attitude no less. I get great joy out of my little studio - so I wanted to share a few pictures with my Jemsite friends - and you choose to come in with an attitude.
I hope that one day you wake up and see the light my friend. Until that day, .....you have my condolences......and thanks to the rest of you who enjoyed the pics.

Re: Studio Pix....

Nice studio. I'm jealous. I have a couple mics (basic Shure 57, 58 ) and now a Micro BR recorder. That's it. I would love to just have a room dedicated to playing/recording (*big sigh).

Use what works for you. I have gotten amazing results from cassette 4 tracks and a 57 mic. To each his own

Seriously, that seems like a real well rounded set up. After all you don't want you're studio looking like this:

your gear is 98% of XXX gear?
And i respond to exactly what you say...and im comparing apples to oranges?

I love how I have an attitude because im not kissing your arse like you wanted people to do.
Oh and if you did see my first post I did like the visual feel of your studio.

Do you ruin family get-togethers too?
Grow up. I'm not asking anyone for praise - just sharing some pix.

You are a gear snob - admit it. I grew out of your stage 20 years ago, son.
Hopefully, one day you will too.
Have A Nice Day!
