THD Hotplate lineout for recording?

Anyone tried the lineout port on a THD Hotplate for direct recording? How did you find it? I hooked up mine to a Zoom MRS-1608 but the sound is extremely 'thin', just not the full bodied DSL100 tone I'm used to. I know that I really should mike up the cabs but was hoping to avaoid the additional expense.

I've never met a line out that sounded like anything worth recording...unless you're after that funky transistor radio sound.

A H&K Red Box or similar direct box with cabinet simulation will help alot, but still not quite sound as good as a mic'd speaker.
