Virtual Tracks and question about Boss BR-1180

What are virtual tracks and how can you use them on a system like a BR-1180? Also, if you have or had a BR-1180 without a CD burner, how would you get your music out of the hard drive onto an existing burner on the computer or a tape machine or something like that. And, if any of you have a BR-1180, what are your comments on this because I'm considering buying one for a digital-but-not-yet-computer-system multitracker.

...Don't even get me started on computer system recording; what a headache!!!!

I don't think you can get them to the computer without the cd-r drive, thats the catch, and my reason for not buying this one yet. Virtual tracks, I think what they mean is you can record alot of different tracks, but you either have to mix down to just a few or only keep certian tracks in the final mix. Though I'm no expert...

Virtual tracks are better thought of as virtual takes. Meaning that you can record several takes at a track Like three differant solos and you can pick which one will play back on that track. And on some recorders you can comp these tracks, which means that you can parts from each and put it togeather. See the truth is that you may have extra space for recording but these stand alone hard disk recorders only have so many playback voices (same goes for computer based ). So for example lets say that it is a 8 track well you can record may may tracks but the unit can only playback 8 of them at a time.
Hope that helps.

The br-1180 says that it can export .wav files so I would say that it has some kind of computer related port. Or at least a digital out. Of course using the digital out may call for you to get a new sound card for your computer.
