Volume problems with band...

Hey all,

I wonder if you can offer your help here. I play in a 5-piece band, I am one of the 2 guitarists. The both of us often have problems hearing each other (whether practicing/recording in the studio or playing live), not exactly useful since we do twin lead work. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to solve this problem?

Thanks

Smithy (Shredder87)

Re: Volume problems with band...

A couple quick questions... what kind of amps/cabs are you playing? How do you (physically) set up for practices & gigs?

Having been in a lot of 2-guitar bands over the years, I've faced this a few times. Sometimes it's because my rig was "too similar" to the other guitarist's... we were using similar guitars, amps, cabs, FX and blended a little too well. By diversifying our rigs a bit we were able to get a little more sonic separation.

The other issue I've seen is setting up amps too far apart (e.g., on opposite sides of the room for practice, opposite sides of the drum set live). Easily solved through physical re-arrangement... just try putting the amps next to each other.

A good set of monitors and adjust the monitor mix to suite your needs. In the studio..... got to use those "cans"! (headphones)
