Volume while recording miced amp..?


Hallo..
Maybe this question has been asked million times..but i was unable to find it..
so, what volume of the amp is enough so that recorded sound is decent..?
I am asking this, cause i dont like to play at very loud volumes..but, since in very recent future i should do some recording in the studio..i would like to know this..

If you're using a tube amp then you should turn it up loud enough so that it pushes the tubes. Try investing in a THD hotplate if that's the case.

If that's not the case and you're using solid state, I suggest you turn it up so then you cant hear anything but the amp itself. Then play a few riffs and check the recording to make sure it sounds decent and it wont pick up you hitting the strings. It's happend to me. Lol.

I will use solidstate probably..
i dont have to be near the amp while it is recorded..so i guess i can easily avoid picking up me hitting strings..
but how loud is enough for decent recording..?
i am thinking at distortion sound ..rhytm and solo..stylishly, best described as Dream Theater..
Whats the usual routine about volume..?
