Re: what are good recording monitors?

Some UK music magazine rated Tannoy Reveal 5a quite highly in the lower price range.

I've had KRK's, Behringers, Tannoys, Mackie's, Yamaha's.....but I've been very happy with M-Audio BX-5's. These are powered near-field monitors with seperate power amps for both woofers and tweeders. About $300/pair. Huge sweet spot and don't take up alot of room. Raw-silk tweeders and oil-filled woofers. Tremendous range. I've beaten the hell out of mine for 2 years straight and they are still strong.

I have a pair of bi-amped Alesis M1 Active's. They were the best value I could find!

Re: what are good recording monitors?

I can't give you good A/B comparisons, but for the price the Behringer's I'm using are pretty damned good. I could have spent more, I figure, but they were a substantial improvement over what I was working on, and the $3-500 I saved I figured would make more of a difference spent on quality mics.

Re: what are good recording monitors?

Hi All,

The Sound On Sound(UK) January issue has rated Event ALP5 quite high. They also recommend the following active sound monitors:
M-Audio BX5A
KRK RP5
Samson Rubicon R5a

I'm planning to buy a pair of monitors within a week, would appreciate any suggestion on the above &/or others.

Cheers!!

P.S: My budget is $300 for a pair.

Just heard the Alesis M1 Active & 620. They are quite nice, good bass, seemed a little eq'ed though!!
