Question

What programs can I turn off in vista ?

I'm running vista 32 home premium. I don't use my computer for
anything but recording(Toshiba Satalite laptop bought about a year and a
half ago).
I already have the power setting at high perfromance
and have "programs" set for priority. Is there any other
programs that are not needed that will speed my computer up?

Re: What programs can I turn off in vista ?

read these to tweak/disable unneeded services. best performance gain with vista is more RAM, faster HDD & faster CPU. Plus if your laptop has a SD slot buy a 4-8GB class-6 SDHC card & set it for ReadyBoost.

Thanks for the reply. I already have the ram maxed at 3gb. That's
all vist 32 will allow, I believe.I'll list my laptop's specs/interface etc.
when I get home tonight to see if you see any other problems.

Yeah, I did some reserch a while back on this issue and found this on "Microsoft Answers"

(I'll get my laptop now and post some specs.)
----------------------------------------------------------------
"The actual PC itself may have been designed to run 4GB but the BIOS/ESCD may be consuming RAM. (yes ~512MB)
One of my PCs at home can run 64-bit yet when it was made it was intended to run 32-bit operating systems.
Because of this when I boot the BIOS reports 3.25GB of RAM, Windows Vista 32-bit reports 4GB.
While Windows Vista reports 4GB it cannot use the full 4GB, Windows Vista merely reports the SPD data from the RAM itself,
the BIOS limits RAM capacity through hardware making what Windows Vista reports as irrelevant."

Re: What programs can I turn off in vista ?

Here is my setup:

Computer: Toshiba Satalite A215-S5837
-AMD Turion 64x2 dual core 2ghz
-pc5300 ddr2 sdram (3GB)
-5400 rpm hard drive
-Vista 32 Home Premium w/service pack 1

Interface: M-Audio Fire wire1814

Software:
-Cubase LE
-Fxpansion BFD 2 (I dedicated a 500GB Western Digital for this which help A LOT!!)
-Misc Waves plug-ins (I know they are hard on the computer)

Questions:
-Is my processor speed too slow?
-Will installing service pack 2 really make a big difference AND do I
risk loosing anything if I do that?

Ditch Vista when Windows 7 is available. I hate Windows and Microsoft in general, but 7 is looking to be much, much better than Vista.

Yes. Why don't we all just go back to dos while we're at it? lol

Could you imagine windows 3.1 with 2gb of ram on a 2.3 duo core processor. No slow downs at all!!!

Go and read this thread in the Reaper forums:

http://forums.****os.com/showthread....&highlight=Dux

Then, download this iso (link below) and you'll be booting into xp in about 10 seconds. You'll need an xp oem key:
