Which Firewire Audio Interface?

Hey guys. I'm looking into buying a Firewire audio interface. Looking to spend less than 150$ used. Which ones would you all recommend?
EDIT: Forgot to mention that I am using an SM57 with it which is mic'ing my amp. I need something that has a decent preamp(one that will atleast boost enough for a decent recording).

I'd look for a Presonus Firebox if I were you.

Re: Which Firewire Audio Interface?

I've done a lot of research on this subject in the past few months, as I'm about to get one. I was going to go with the FireBox, but on a lot of the recording forums, the general consensus was that the Echo AudioFire 4 is built better, has better preamps, and has better support.

I'll be getting mine Christmas (hopefully), so I'll let you know how it is.

Take this FWIW:

Re: Which Firewire Audio Interface?

Thanks so much man. Checked out that topic just now. Thanks. Bad thing is though man, thats quite a bit out of my price range. Max max max I can do is 200$(used). What would you suggest for that price? How is the audiofire 2 compared to the 4? I really only need 2 inputs. Let me know :-). Thanks

Re: Which Firewire Audio Interface?

I don't think the AudioFire 2 has any XLR inputs.

All I know is that the AudioFire 4 costs the same as a Firebox ($299). So you might be able to find one used for the same price as you would a Firebox.

Re: Which Firewire Audio Interface?

No it doesn't but is that really a problem? The xlr cable that I have right now is a Xlr to 1/4 inch horizon cable. Wouldn't that work just the same as an interface that had a xlr input? EDIT: I just read that the AudioFire 2 doesnt have Pre's so nvm.
Also, yeah it is in the same price range but its not nearly as popular. On 3bay all the ones on there are brand new right now. Cheapest I could find is 258$ shipped.

Narrowed it down to either a:
Native instruments Audio Kontrol 1
OR
Edirol UA-25EX(non-usb 2.0)

I feel like the NI AK-1 is going to be a noob machine though you know?
Which would you all pick?

Get an Mbox with the software, you will get allot more done.
Buy it and get started recording, allmost anything else will give you Gear Acquisition Syndrome and you will never stop trying to buy, or research something else.
Good luck

I've got experience with the presonus firepod. I think it's called the firebox or something like that now. Great price, good quality. I've read some reliability complaints, but I've had no problems.
