Yet another audio interface thread...

I need an audio interface for recording guitars and recording with a MIDI keyboard. So yeah, 2 Mic inputs and something to handle MIDI is all I really need, but as products of this kind are plentiful and I have no idea what Im doing as Im just getting started, Id like some advice!

Budgets not really a problem, so long as its not insane (I will want to upgrade to be able to records drums, etc when I have the space and soundproofing available to do so, but thats probably a long time off, if this is useful into any considerations) and as youd probably expect, I want it to sound as good as it possibly can. Also, it will be going into an iMac with Logic pro

Thanks!

POD Studio UX2 would be a good place to start looking for the audio side of things.

M-Audio MIDISport 2x2 will handle the MIDI side.

Both are USB connections to your Mac.

USB is for amateurs.

Get the Edirol FA-66

It's FireWire, 192khz 24 bits. A punch in the face.

2 XLR inputs, 2 1/4 inputs, an optic input, a MIDI input.
The same for the OUTs...

It has Direct Monitoring, so you don't suffer any latency when playing.
Doesn't lag with MIDI neither... like 7ms, which is a kick in the face to those who record with USB.

It's not expensive and is your best bet. Works also with MACs...

Lexicon Omega stuff is good. If you're just doing a track at a time recording, USB will be fine. If you are concerned with potential latency problems, firewire is the way to go. Presonus makes a little Firewire box, TC Electronic has something too. With Mac, Apogee makes some nice stuff as well. There's lots of options at that price and most likely you'll end up with more than you need whether USB or firewire.

The Firepod works great with Logic. Pretty cool for just plugging your guitar directly in and using all the Logic amps too.

I have a firepod and use a maxed out macbook with logic. Old school roland keyboard hooked in via midi and you have 8 inputs so you are pretty much set for whatever you want to do.
