Zip to Hard Disk mod worked!!!

So....about 6 months ago I staretd doing battle with putting together a home recording studio. I went the Mac route but soon realized that, quite frankly, I do battle with computers all day at work....I really don't want to continue the fight at home. I packed everything up and returned it in exchange for a Roland VS-840 Zip-based recording unit.

I was just getting started on it when I went away for a weekend to Connecticut tor ecord some tracks with some friends and I got to watch the horror of a BOZZ Zip-based unit get tempermental, freak out, kill a disk and effectively render a full 24 hours of work dead.

I was naturally jumpy when I got back about my Zip-based rig. It wasn't a scene I'd care to live again and sitting there, right on my desk, was the potential for it. I did some research on line and found these guys that were taking their Roland VS-840s and were modifying them to hard disk based recorders. It took a little work but the damndest thing happened last night; it worked!

I now have a HD based recorder with few of the faults the original non-modded models had! I recorded a few tracks and all the latency was gone, all the potentially aggravating quirks were gone and I could finally get down to the business of making some music.

....and just in time for Winter!!!
