250k vs 500k pot for tone.

I installed two Dimarzio Virtual PAF's in my SZ320MH. It sounds great, The Dimarzio instructions suggest using 500K pots for the volumes and 250K for the tone. The SZ320MH uses 500K pots for all three. My tone pot is scratchy so I'd like to replace it anyway. SHould I go with the 250K one Dimarzio suggests? of stick with a 500K. What difference will it make?
