2620 > Tele conversion

After much debate amongst myself. I finally decided what to do with my 2620 Prestige Cubed. I pulled out the pickups, and the 5 way and put in a P94 in the Bridge and a Tele pickup in the neck and a 3 way. I was nervous as I was cutting wires. The diagram was no use at all. I finally figures out how to wire it, sorta. The Tele pickup is a "tapped". Not sure what that is. It's a single coil, but it has 2 different output levels that are switchable. I have it wired like this. P94 1st pos, Tele higher output 2nd pos, tele lower output 3rd pos. I'm actually quite happy with the results. I now have country tone, but Prestige playability. The downside is, I don't yet have it wires to do both picups. But I have a show tomorrow, and it'll have to do for now.

Check out the audio clips. I still have to overcome the trem problem. I think a Tremol-no is in the future for the 2620. I'm noticing some tone loss in the mp3 conversion. But you'll get the idea.

I applaud you for taking an Ibanez in such a radical direction but why not just get a Tele body for it? Lord knows Tele bodies can be had for cheap.

Re: 2620 > Tele conversion

Simple, I've had tele's. Several. Prestige's play a whole lot easier than teles, and strats. Nothin plays like an Ibanez. I like the look of it too. I have my PRS for big beefy tone and another guitar that I did the same thing to as the 2620, it also has a SPH90 int he bridge and a tele in the neck. I like the P94 a lot better then the SPH90 though. Single coils just sound better than hums to me anyway. The hum canceling also cancels desirable frequencies as well. But, coil tapped hums like the JS1000 don't quite get the true single tone. I've had one, it's still great tone from a JS1000, but not twangy enough for the country band. I'll be getting an AT300 this year too.

YeeHaw The conversion in action. It worked as well as I hoped it would.
