777DY wiring question(parallel/series) +volume question

Hi it's Marko from italy.

Recently I got a nice '91 777DY. I got 2 questions to ask:

The volume pot was acting strange. Moving the pot, the volume didn't change until you turn the pot all the way down. I had only full volume or no volume at all, nothing in between.
I tought the pot is broken so I removed the pickguard to replace it. After replaced with the new one (Dimarzio) I noticed that nothing changed.
I realizaed that the pot's acting was due to the capacitor and condenser soldered to the pot.
Is this thing normal in a jem? Since it's not something I like, I need to figure out the correct components.

The other strange thing is that a found that the red and green wire from the paf pro's are soldered together to the swicth, while the bare, black and white are soldered to the pot. Similiar to the diagram bellow:

Is this normal? Does it mean that the humbuckers are wired in parallel instead of serial?

Many thanks for any help
