A few wiring questions

Hi, im about to wire 2 humbuckers, tone zone bridge and paf pro neck, but have a few questions as ive never done this before. Ive only got a standard ibanez 5 way switch so i guess i can only wire both humbuckers in series? Ive looked at the dimarzio 4 conductor pdf file and it says i should solder the green and bare wires to ground ( back of tone or volume?) solder the black and white together and tape them off and solder the red wire to the hot connection, what is the hot connection? Also what wire do i use to connect the input jack? and what do i solder it to? Finally there are 2 wires not connected to anything, they are soldered at one end to the vol and tome pots and im not sure what they are for, ive attached a picture, do i need them? or shall i just unsolder them? Hope someone can help been meaning to solder these in for adges!

thanks

Re: A few wiring questions

Pete, the hot connection is on your 5 way switch soldered into the correct position.
the white and black wires can be taped off and left unless you want to coild split in which case they go to the correct place on the 5 way.
the braided wire coming from the volpot shoudl go to the output jack.
the black wire coming from the top of the tone is just an earth to be used wherever its needed (bridge, 5 way etc)
good luck.

Re: A few wiring questions

take a look at this. It will help with wiring the pots and jack . the switch isn't the same.

http://www.dimarzio.com//media/diagrams/E.pdf

now this switch should be right, but instead of wiring that middle coil in you can use the two coil taps and solder them to that spot. Was that switch the original and did the guitar just have 2 humbuckers.
