Re: Air Norton + Evolution
I actually have an Air Norton in neck and an Evo in bridge (with chopper middle) and I think they are both great. The Evo is cutting and great for solo and the Air Norton is amazingly smooth and round and great for sweeps, chords, harmonics, even solo's.
I like to have the chopper in the middle to be able to have some more dynamic range too. I can add bite to the Air Norton or cut some from the Evo with the middle.
What is weird is that the Air Norton seems to get better harmonics than the Evo even

Re: Air Norton + Evolution
sweet, the air norton in the neck is a really good choice. For the bridge, i'm not too crazy myself about the evolutions. To me they are too "nasally" and don't sound to well for chords. I really like the Evo2 pickup for the bridge. It's a little warmer and has more headroom than the evolutions It screams when you shred and cleans up well when you roll off the volume. It sounds great for chording as well. I also like the D-sonic alot. As you've heard from petrucci's playing, the d-sonic sounds great. Hope that helps a little....

Re: Air Norton + Evolution
I want to try the Evo2 very much since people rave about them. I think my Evo doesn't sound nasally though, maybe my crazy idea of putting it in my basswood rg worked?
Also do want to try the D-Sonic but I dont have enough guitars for all this!!

Re: Air Norton + Evolution
lol.....yea. Don't get me wrong, the evolution is a great pickup...it just wasn't for me. I really dig the evo2 because I think it's a better "all around pickup".

Re: Air Norton + Evolution
I have that combination as 7s, and it is one of my favourites - perfect for what you want. That said, much as I love the Evo7 in basswood, I personally think the Evo 6 sucks in basswood.

Re: Air Norton + Evolution
I totally agree with algiman. The evolution just didn't sound right in my set up with my basswood rg. But different amp+guitar combos give different results...so yea

Re: Air Norton + Evolution
Or it might just be the piece of Basswood, mine feels and sounds a little different than other
basswood guitars
I've played.
I believe the Jem10th, Jem90Ham, and BSB were basswood with evos though

Re: Air Norton + Evolution
Best bet, but there is a chance the evo would sound good in your guitar lol. Better odds for Evo2 I guess

Re: Air Norton + Evolution
I have Evo2 and Air Norton in my RG550 93 and they sound just GREAT!
My friend has a Evo in RG370 and it's a lot brighter and has that ice treble that I don't like...
Evo2 is fatter and has more powerful mids...
Air Norton is simply fantastic pickup... Smooth sound, sustain, dynamics, definition... The whole package...
