Air zone or norton ?

Hello, i ve got a vigier excalibur custom with a seymour duncan custom 5 in the bridge. Not that bad, but i'm looking for something louder and a little bit more aggressive an punchier, so i'm looking for the air zone or norton. I prefer not to take the tonezone because i red that the bass could bu muddy or too loud.

Ad a combianaison, i'm thinking about a blue velvet bridge in the middle and a air norton in the neck.

ANyway, if someone could tell me the difference of sound between these two bridge pickup i'm open to any suggestion. The body of the guitar is rosewood.

Thank you

Re: Air zone or norton ?

I would stay away from the TZ in a rosewood body, the Norton has much tighter bass. I would probably go with a PAF Pro or Joe in the neck, because the rosewood will already be very warm sounding and too warm of a neck pickup might also be muddy.

A Duncan JB/59 combo might also be a good choice.

Re: Air zone or norton ?

norton all the way, tighter bass. the air zone is a sweeter sounding, more open, lower output tone zone. it is more sensitive to picking as well. the norton will give you the best qualities of a tone zone, but be tighter, not as meaty. in rosewood, would be a plus. i would say fred in the neck or the paf joe. fatter than a regular hum, but not air norton fat. with the spongier rosewood, focused lows and mids are key.

Look at the Red Velvet for the middle. It's a little hotter than a Blue Velvet and it's a little different than what everyone else does. I installed one in my old RG and it was great.

Re: Air zone or norton ?

Thank you all for you're answer but i' m stupid :
The neck is rosewood, but the body is alder.

So any suggestion with an alder body ?
Norton ? Air zone ? About the paf pro in neck i think it is too bright for a neck body i love a sound a little bit more bassy, maybe with an air zone.

Thanks

I'll stick with Norton, one of my favorite DiMarzios. Air Zone would probably work too, it will have more bass, which can be a good or bad thing depending on your setup.

Re: Air zone or norton ?

About the norton is it a loud ickup ? possible to have a good distortion ? the sound is compressed ? as Dynamics ? And What about the split position in 2nd position clean sound ?

the norton is great man!
it can be loud or soft it is very dynamic and open sounding for a hotter pup
it responds like a old paf but has more of the balls of a tone zone
