Alternative to the Tone Zone (bridge)

hi everybody!

i've a sc620 (it's a S series body with fixed wraparound bridge and ebony board 25' scale).
it has a tone zone in the bridge and i liked it, but after months of playing i think that i don't like it very much.i think it's too muddy so i was seeking for an alternative.

i read good things about the norton, but is it really brighter/open sounding than the tone zone? or it is just a little less bassier?

i was also considering a fred or a virtual hot paf(used since the donk make it anymore) but i think it will be too low power

i play hard rock!

thanks

These questions are always far too subjective. Some love the sound of Evos in mahogany guitars, some hate it, but they would be a good bet. I'm a real fan of the Norton too, but it may be a little too lively in this guitar. Personally, I'd go for Bare Knuckle Pickups Nailbombs:

i 've never heard a bareknukle pick up so i don't know what to expect except ttha it has a high dc resistance and i think it would be too dark (as the tone zone).

what do you mean when you say the norton would be too "lively" in my guitar?

forgive my bad english

The nailbomb is a very articulate pickup. My favourite for high gain stuff when I want a big sound but to keep clarity between the notes. I have them in a Les Paul, and they sound great.

A Norton could sound good, but it has such a distinct sound that it might not make the most of your guitar's natural tone. I love the Norton in alder strat style guitars. I could be talking complete bolox mind you, it might be exactly what you want!

for the most part the norton is pretty close to the tone zone with just a lot of the bass frequency chopped off. it's only a tad bit brighter. it does sing a bit better though. and yes, it does have a VERY distinct sound.

Re: Alternative to the Tone Zone (bridge)

ok,so far norton wouldn't be the right chice...

what about a mo joe?does it get muddy with medium to high level of gain?is it shrill?

i'm very atrracted by the paf 36th anniversary bridge only fear it is a little low power (in the neck i have a humb from hell)...

still very confused

The Fred is great, its like the PAF pro just with more overtones and harmonics, and is not muddy.

Re: Alternative to the Tone Zone (bridge)

I think I'll go with the mo joe since it has very flat eq so i can shape my sound with the amp eq controls.

the pickup picker suggests the paf annyversary (eventually i can go with a virtual hot paf) but i think it would be too low power.

and now give me your advices on using the mo joe!keeping in my that i don't want shrill highs nor smooth bass...just clear highs and tight bass!
