Another "The right pickup for me?" Thread

Alright, here's what I'm looking for. A high-output/very punchy but not trebly pickup that looks like this:

I don't care weather its a neck pickup or a bridge pickup.
The looks are quite important, I don't want it to look hot-rodded. And no, I don't feel like potting my own pickup.
I don't see Dimarzio offering anything like that, nor Seymour D.

Oh, by the way, I'll be putting it into a Les Paul, is that's any help. Can anyone help me?

I'm pretty sure the Tone Zone is available with the chrome covers.

Tone zone from Dimarzio, and yeah it does come with chrome or gold covers like a typical les paul pickup.

You can pretty much get any pickup from dimarzio and then install the covers.

Um, most of the Duncan and DiMarzio pickups are available with covers, but since covers aren't that popular any more they don't advertise as much with them on. So yeah, why don't you search a little and read specs and so on more carefully.

Especially the DiMarzio 36th Anniversary PAF pup. You can get chrome, gold, aged,, different style bobbins and on and on for options. Plus that pickup is vintage LP tone in a small box.

Alright, when I looked at the pickup color options, the only thing remotely close to what I want are "Gold Tops" which are not covered, but the bobbins are gold themselves. I didn't see the "Breed" style pickups with just "Gold", and same with Evo and the Evo2 pickups, so I assumed that they were all like that. When I searched for Gold Dimarzios, I could find anything. I kinda made this thread on a whim.

I'm not looking for Vintage LP tone....So yeah, why don't you read my specs more ca....

I won't go there

BKPs, they have a variety of covers as standard options and have several pickups matching the sort of sound you are suggesting.

You can get pretty much any dimarzio with or a nickel or gold cover, it's just an extra upcharge for the covers. I'd suggest the Air Zone and the Air Norton combo.

Seeing that you're in Canada as well, I can tell you that most stores here won't really stock any of the ones with the covers and they need to be custom ordered.

Duncan and Bare Knuckle also offer gold pickup covers on most models as well.

Uh, wasn't telling you because you wanted a "LP" tone, I was telling you because I think they are great sounding PUPs. Sorry, but that whole, I need to read more carefully thing was silly. I never said anything about Les Paul tone, I just talked about pickup options. You could still use my advice I guess. If you read about the actually pickups they're recommended for a plethora of different styles of music. Search and read, then you'll know.

Re: Another "The right pickup for me?" Thread

Norton, AT-1, AirZone, AirNorton and all of the "Vintage Output" pickups except "Humbucker from Hell" on the Dimarzio site are available from the factory with the metal covers it appears from just scanning through the site.

Also, on the auction site you can search for "metal pickup covers" or go to StewMac and buy them for in the $10 vicinity and buy whatever pickup you want and install the cover to keep the LP look. As long as the humbucker has one side with removable pole pieces, you should be able to screw that cover right down. I too wouldn't want to tweak pickups a lot, but would take on that little mod myself.
