Are my pickups what they claim to be ?

Hello everyone,

I noticed on my Jem that the pickup wiring is slightly wrong.... the fourth position (middle and neck) is the neck side of the humbucker and single instead of the middle and middle side of humbucker.

Anyway, i thought i`d lift the scratchplate and have a look and there is no suggestion that they are evos in there. The pickups have v2,v4,v5 on the back, although dimarzio is stamped on the top of the pickup. I thought they would have DP151 or whatever the evo model number is.

Can anyone tell me what should be written on the back of the pickups?
I`m sort of thinking i have some dodgy IBZ pickups in there

Re: Are my pickups what they claim to be ?

Hi,
today i've change the bridge pickup of my RGT3020 (a pafpro) to a tone zone. When i've looked the back of the pafpro i've found the same you are describing. There is the "Dimarzio Made in USA", but there is nothing that says what pickup it is. As you say, dimarzio is stamped in the top of the pickup, and in the tone zone i've put in the guitar there is nothing stamped, so i suppose that the pickups that ibanez guitars hav from factory have that dimarzio stamped and no other indication in the back...

I'd think you'd know if you had Evo's in your guitar. They have quite a distinctive sound to them.

V = Vai
4 & 5 = neck and bridge EVO's

If your Jem is an FP then it would have the PAF Pro's (unless someone changed them out)

Re: Are my pickups what they claim to be ?

The reason that the stock pickups have different markings than the aftermarket ones is that the pickups, in many cases, aren't exactly identical to the aftermarkets. Case in point: the Evos on a VWH and their Vx markings. The stock pickups have gold poles, the aftermarkets have black. The same applies to the chrome-pole PAF Pros in the RGT and in the JS1000.

Just as the pickups can be ordered in any color Dimarzio offers, they can also be ordered with any color poles they offer.
