Audio taper volume pot issue

I just installed a CTS audio taper 500K volume pot. I also put a .001 uF capacitor between input and output terminals. The volume control now has most of its effect in a small portion of the knob (towards the lower volume part). Not sure if the capacitor is effecting that.

Also, the cap seems to leave too much highs in. I tend to like a mellower sound when the volume knob is lowered. Any capacitor values you recommend and also what do you make of the audio taper issue? IU mean I realize that audio taper is non linear but I thought across that nonlinear curve you are supposed to hear a continual change in volume (i.e. the ears process the nonlinear change as linear).

no with the linear you hear the change the other way around so it seems to have more affect. Some ppl like Audio taper others don't.

Just remove the cap .you may like it without.

using a 250k pot will help with reducing highs too.
