Bare knuckle pickups

Hey everyone, i have a question.
I have an Ibanez RG in which Im lookin to replace the pickups. Now Ive planned for a long time now that I would put evos in it, as I hav played other axes with evos and REALLY liked them. Im not a big fan of Duncans, and I cant be bothered with EMGs, not for this guitar anyway. But after reading through some of the posts here, I see some of you guys mention these bare knuckle pups, and I was wondering, whats the deal? Ive been to their site and have read about a few of their pups, but I dont know anyone who uses them so I was wondering if you guys could tell me about them. You see the thing is, practically everyone uses dimarzios, duncans, or emgs, and Id like to try something different if you know what I mean. So what do they compare too? Is the warpig like an evo? Is the emerald like an air norton? I was looking into the evos so you know what im after tone wise.
Cheerz for your time

bro they sound like a over wound Gibson PAF pickup, as far as puting them in a RG , the sound is much like a PAF Pro, there are better choises in pickups than the ones you stated in your post & it depends on the tone your after, theres the Bartolini - this pickup is top class for a good range of tones as compared to the EMG, the Bart is a much better sounding pickup,

The Evans pickup's is one of my fav's in a RG & they don't look like a brick pickup, & sound very Good across a wide range of tones & very responsive like the evo, it's up to you bro on what you want out of a pickup? if you wan't something diffrent look into the pickups i mention here, there both very good.

Cheers-Jake.

Re: Bare knuckle pickups

Hi,

I have a set of bare knuckle apachies in my strat and they are excellent. I wasn't sure if I wanted them or the mothers milk set but after a couple of emails with Tim (the founder of BKP) I went with the apachies.

I would advise you to do the same, drop him a mail telling him what gear you have and what sound you are after and he will sort you out. Plus you can exchange them if they are not what you want. He is a player so he knows what he is talking about.

Let us know what you go with.

Re: Bare knuckle pickups

Bareknuckle....two things...good pickups, great service and knowledgeable and all round good dude....but price...almost double SDs for HBs?.....nah, SDs are overpriced as well. The majot piss off about pups prices is that all decent pups use the same material......youre just paying for the website and the sound clips and the "imaginative" pup names
Bill Lawrence if you want some good "home brewed" pups, and speak to Bills wife the service there is excellent. I've fitted 3 sets to guitars I've worked on and they are very very good, but half the price of SDs?...BUT....if you wanna **** a snoot at the establishment then stick a set of GFSs in, I've just put a set of Big Mouths in my S470 on the neck and bridge and a Lil Killer in the single position and they are outrageously grinworthy and they cost a pittance......3 pickups for 65GBP!!!!!....and no...theyre not just relatively good for the money....they are flipping stupidly good, so good I wanna build a 36" scale guitar with a HSHSH config just for a giggle.

Re: Bare knuckle pickups

+1 on the GFS pickup(s) recommendation. I too use the Lil' Killer, as well as a Fat PAF.
