Re: Best (All Round) Dimarzio Bridge Pickup

I went with Evo since it's the only pickup I own besides a Super D in my Strat (which I like). Never had the opportunity to play any other Dimarzio's. Both the Evo and the Super D have a nice, articulate attack. I love them.

Re: Best (All Round) Dimarzio Bridge Pickup

I have a cheaper Ibanez, had it since the late 80's and for years i have had a PAF Pro in the bridge, however I have just ordered a EVO. The PAF Pro is an awesome PUP and truth be told I only bought it because the JEM's came out with them... I always envisaged another in the neck ala early JEMS however now the EVO is enroute, the PAF is neck bound!!!
I will hook up the EVO with an ON-ON-ON DPDT switch to make it more versitile. ie Series-single-parallel and change the Pro to series- parallel.
Being a "imitation" guitar I can afford the odd hole for a switch....!!!

Re: Best (All Round) Dimarzio Bridge Pickup

I like the EVO and if you split it it sounds way nice as a single too. Better for cleans and dirty split if you have a noise gate than in series.

In series (dirty) much harder for rock, shred and metal.

In series (clean) ok, a tad dark, not as bad as other humbuckers at all. Useful, but I prefer a neck pickup in the neck for cleans anyhow.

My fave so far = Evolution

Re: Best (All Round) Dimarzio Bridge Pickup

I have Breed in the Neck, Evo in the Middle and Evo2 in the Bridge. Coming from PAFs in the N/B, I thought I made a mistake in my new combo (trying to do Vai's PUP evolution in one combo). But after playing this combo for awhile, I have to say that the Evo2 really surprised me. I have a chorded note picking style (picking notes while playing chords) and the picked notes really cut thru the chords. In straight leads, the harmonics are insane in a very good way.
