Best (All Round) Dimarzio Bridge Pickup

Best Overall Bridge Pickup For RG/Jem or Superstrat guitars. For what type of music is usually played on them. Rock, Metal, Instrumental, Progressive, Shred. Style with some focus on soloing of some type, not just power chords.

(I know some may play Jazz, country, punk or other stuff but vote on what most of us here play, some form of the styles above)

Re: Best (All Round) Dimarzio Bridge Pickup

I thought Fred would be up there? Air Norton sounds pretty nice in bridge too (check out sound bites on dimarzio site)! I'm personally stuck between these two (Fred and Air norton) for the bridge of my discontinued Yamaha Pacifica 821D (AWESOME GUITAR I must say!!!!!!) What would you personally do if you was me? Sorry if I'm kinda takin the thread off on a tangent...
Regards
Jonny

My favorite is the Steve Morse Bridge. It's right between a Super D and the Super II sound wise.

Re: Best (All Round) Dimarzio Bridge Pickup

I've used the Tone Zone, PAF pro, Steve's Special and Evolution in the bridge. I hated the PAF pro in the bridge; much too wimpy for a bridge pickup. The Evolution is horrible -- sounds like a swarm of killer bees caught in a glass jar.... yuck.

The Tone Zone sounds incredible and the Steve's Special sounds amazing. For me, the Tone Zone and Steve's Special are pretty much equal. If I only had one guitar and had to choose which one to use.... I'm really not sure which one I'd choose. The Tone Zone appears to be more versatile because of the boosted mids, but you can always crank the mids on your amp with the Steve's Special.

Never tried a Breed, Super Distortion or Air Zone. CAN'T STAND Petrucci's tone these days (UGH), so the D Sonic is out.

For the bridge? I've got to go with the Breed.

Had to say Evo2. No matter how many I try I always seem to like the tightness and harmonics of the Evo.

I would say overall that the PAF Pro is the best, simply as it's so versatile, it pairs well with other pickups, including single coils and doesn't get into "I wanna sound like..." territory

Re: Best (All Round) Dimarzio Bridge Pickup

If you want "all around" then best are Air Zone,Norton or Paf Pro. Higher output like SS,Tone Zone,Evo etc. just aint that good when you need clearer tone for blues, rock etc. Lower output are not that good when it comes to distorsion sounds. So those "in the middle" pickups are best "all around". Mine favourite is Air Zone..strong,articulate,nice vibe, like a bit less powered TZ with much more definition,clearness,subtle..Norton has a cool Van Halen vibe, nice sound..Paf Pro has nice vibe to it but sounds a bit too "thin" on RG type guitar.

I like the breed beacuse it has a nice amount of output not too much not too little, and it can be aggressive as anything with the volume up or nice and mellow with the volume down.

The paf pro is also good becuse it is so versitle and its really good for using with pedals, middle of the range all-rounder.
