best pickups for basewood

evening all.im wanting to change the stock pick-ups in my rg2550z.now then what would you recomend ???.i loved the tone of my 7vwh (sold it).obviously the 7vwh and rg2550z are made from different wood, but how close would the tone be if i put evos in my rg.also was thinking about evo in the bridge and tone-zone in the neck,im open to any suggestions as long as the pickups are di-marzio based.the rg body is basewood and the neck is ibanez prestige.nice one lads

Re: best pickups for basewood

don't put a tone zone in the neck that would sound bad. I have two ibanez's with basswood bodies. one of them is an rg2550e like yours, and it has an emg 81 in the bridge and a 60 in the neck. the other has a seymour duncan custom custom in the bridge and a pearly gates in the neck. all of these pickups sound fantastic imo.

Re: best pickups for basewood

For basswood, if you're talking an HH setup, I recommend a Air Norton (neck) / Steve Special (bridge) combo. My hands down faves in a basswood body. Add a coil tap and mmmm. As for singles, the Dimarzio Cruiser sounds great.

EMGs / Duncans in my experience perform best in set-neck/neck-thru guitars. I've never liked EMG humbuckers personally (although I LOVE their DG20 single coil set), but the Duncans I've had in mahogany-bodied set neck guitars have been great (Alnico Pro II, Full Shred, etc).

imo you should go for something different, that combination has been used to death! maybe you might wanna get a more unique sound?

at least that's what i'd do

might wanna consider breeds

Re: best pickups for basewood

Why limit yourself to Dimarzios?
If you must, and assuming that you're after a modern sound, the Air Norton/Steve's Special is a great combo. Personally I think the 6 string version of the Evo is horrible in basswood.

Re: best pickups for basewood

ok so ive nearly raised enough money to buy new pickups, will have full amount in a week or 2.im torn between breeds h-s-h,but i do rather like the sound of tone zone in the bridge.my style of playing is plenty of pinch harmonics especially on e,a,d strings.i play a lot of whitesnake, bon jovi kinda stuff.which will be best breeds or tone zone ???
