Better pickup choice for my PGM301?

I am the second owner of my PGM301 and (sadly) the previous owner installed a black EvoII in the bridge. Its tone is matched well for amps like my 5150 block letter, but my main amp is a Boogie Mark III, and frankly, the tone is just too "spanky" and im looking for more fullness to the shred.

Im thinking a D-sonic. Maybe even an X2N. I dunno, the maple neck is sweet supreme, but is definitely lacking in the heaviness department when mated with my Mesa. Shred city for sure, but not the Petrucci-esque tone im used to with my PRS.

Suggestions, oh wise ones?

Go for the X2N. I enjoy it.

Re: Better pickup choice for my PGM301?

Noticed the topic was moved; sry - new to forums.

I've looked at the crunchlab; I am definitely curious of its tone; most of the samples i've seen are either are on rosewood fretboards or 7 strings. The big downside is that I dont think its available in white and I want to get back to the all white look. Secondly, I know the X2N will be a performer with the Boogie (saw a convincing vid on youtube), but the big question is does anyone have good experience with the D-sonic or these other high outputters on maple fretboard axes and Boogie rigs? Specifically the Mark series.

Ok, Ok, so silly me I did more research and talked to more folks. I really thought the crunchlab was available in only black (although I still haven't heard it on a maple fretboard guitar so I can't say for sure if its for me)

Someone informed me that Bareknuckle pickups might be the way to go though, and after checking them out i'm thinking a Nailbomb might be the solution to my heavy metal woes.

Heavy Metal? Yeah.. I think you'll quite like the X2N.

Re: Better pickup choice for my PGM301?

I recently put a crunch lab/liquifire set in a RG 520 (mahogany body) that I put a 550 aanj maple finger board neck on. Very happy with the tone. I have an almost identical guitar with a 1570 neck on it and with a small amount of EQ they can sound virtually the same.

My point was that the maple board vs the rosewood board was of very minor consideration with these pickups. I just wanted to add that because of your mention of maple neck being to "spanky"

You could also try the Tone Zone. A full sounding pickup that I love in my RG550 (maple neck basswood body).
