bill lawrence L-500XL
i got one today and put it in my ibanez rg-470, it works great and all, but it just sounds alot more like a
neck pup
than a bridge one, is this normal? or did i get a defunct one?

Mine was very aggressive with lots of highs. Are you using a 500k pot, if not you should.

Re: bill lawrence L-500XL
Yeah, that's weird, because I think that pickup sounds super good, and doens't remind me of a neck pickup at all.
I am by no means an expert on this issue, and I have only played the Bill and Becky 500XL, but apparently the stewmac one sucks.
If you got it from stewmac, that may be one reason.
But... I've also heard people that love the stewmac one, so who knows...
Like I said, I am no expert, and I've only played the Bill and Becky one, and that one sounded killer to me.

Re: bill lawrence L-500XL
ya i'm not sure what pot i'm using, but i think it is a stewmac one. all i know is that i played the dean from hell and loved it so i figured i'd get one for my ibanez, it just sounds like a neck pup. i bought it over the internet from some where for $50, when it came it was missing the mounting ring and the box looked used, water damage and kinda wrinkled. the pup it'self has a scratch on the top. just all around bad looking back, how's the dimebucker stack up to a real xl-500?

Re: bill lawrence L-500XL
I am very interested in the BL L500XL.
Does anyone know the approximate EQ curve?
Is the low-end tight?

Re: bill lawrence L-500XL
don't worry about whichever one is "real" that's all BS, IMHO.
Do a search on the Harmony Central boards and you'll see tons of debates.
I forgot which website I got mine from, but it's awesome. I think from which ever place you get it from, you'll either be happy or disappointed.

Excellent. I believe I have the same guitar (RG470,
basswood body
,
rosewood board
and maple neck, Floyd), so I look forward to your impressions of that pickup.

Well, I'd rather get a pickup from the guy that actually wound them, rather than the marketing rep.
