Blue Velvet/Red Velvet?

Which out of these two pickups would you choose in the middle of a H-S-H combination? Which one would be better for sweet tones in positions 2 and 4?

Better define 'sweet'. Are you going to use it for a glassy clean sound? a bluesy rhythm sound? do you want it to sound like a strat?

The Blue pill or the Red pill?

I looking for something like the tone a Jem can give in positions 2 and 4 but with a higher output middle pup. Dimarzio tech suggested a reverse polarity Blue Velvet bridge pickup for the middle slot. I notice the Red Velvet has a higher output than the blue, now I'm unsure; just looking for peoples opinions on the two pup's. Which one they think would be best.

Wasn't the red velvet designed to be more of a Tele replacement pickup?

red velvet it has a pinch of more balls than the blue one (more bass an mids, less treble), is a very nice sigle coil IMHO

I can't give a hands-on review of the blue or red....but i can tell you that i have a Dimarzio Virtual 2 bridge pickup in the middle of my Jem (Evo/Paf on the outsides) and the guitar has awesome tonal variety.

I installed a Red Velvet in my rg. I think it sounds great. Balances well with the Tone Zone and Air Norton, and sounds good on it's own. I chose it because I wanted something a little different. I say go for it.

Kennydoe, have you tried Ibanez S1 in the middle? I'm wondering if I should upgrade my middle pu on my RG 570 (/w Evo)

I believe my RG550 origianlly had an S1 in the middle. When i put the evo and paf in, I put a spare Fender Texas Special (bridge model) in there. It sounded better than the S1, but not as good as the Virtual 2 Bridge model i have in my Evo/Paf equipped Jem now.

A lot of guys don't use the middle position. If you use it on any regular basis, yes, replace it.
