Breed In Mahogany Anyone?

I'm thinking about trying a breed in the bridge of a Gibson Explorer. Anyone have experience with a breed in mahogany set neck? I really like the Dimarzio Site clip if Craving Lucy's guitarist using a Breed in a Les Paul.

Isn't the Tune-o-matic bridge a lot higher over the body than a trem system? Wouldn't this mean that you would need a huge badass shim to make up for that?

Why? The Breed is somewhat similar to a Duncan JB (without the huge mid spike), which sounds great in Mahogany guitars.

so its similar but different ? er..... ok.
the tone of a breed is dark, very bassy and add that to the mahogany and its gonna be too muddy.
im about to make 2 mahogany guitars and I have a set of breeds just laying around waiting to be used but instead I bought some D Activators instead, the other set will be EVo's..

even my fave paf pros get a bit muddy in mahogany..

I said that the Breed is very similar to the JB, just without quite as big of a mid hump. Other than that, they are extremely similar. Andy Timmons used a JB in his main AT100, but the pickup on the production model is just a slightly modified Breed.

Re: Breed In Mahogany Anyone?

I use an Air Zone in a custom shop Schecter, which is set neck, all mahogany, ebony fretboard, TOM. It's very thick...a bit too thick (ie muddy) so I'm going to be getting those new 36th PAFs. I talked to DiMarzio for a while about which pickups to get, and since I play mostly fusion, he did recommend the Breed in the bridge for soloing uses. It's extremely smooth. But...if you want any crunch, it and the mahogany fight too much. And remember guys, Timmons uses a similar pickup in his mahogany AT300...but it's also bolt on and has a maple neck. The explorer is all mahogany, set neck, and has the shorter scale. Way too much mud.
If you want more clear tone in mahogany, the Steve's Special I've heard is good...don't really know though.
When it comes to the neck, avoid the Breed neck in the neck position. WAY too thick.

Re: Breed In Mahogany Anyone?

i had a breed bridge in a basswood bodied RG (RG321) i think it was basswood.....

anyway that pup was awesome i got comments from other guitarists about it. i had a tone zone in the bridge and it was a little sterile and bright but still a great pup.

dont know about mahogany....... but i do like the breeds....
