Depends on the amp. I would go for the Breed in a more british voiced rig, and the SS in a more Mesa-style rig. The Breed's thick mids might not be the best choice for some things, and the likewise for the Steves Special's scoop.
I voted Breed though.

Kind of both, I have a Mesa F-30 which has EL84 tubes.

Yeah, but it's still voiced as a Mesa(played through a couple of them) compared to like a Marshall or Laney. That's what I'm referring to.

One of my favorite bridge pickups!!! great for metal...
And if you add some mids on your amp, don't be afraid, you'll cut through the mix!!!
