Breed With More Punch
I have a Breed in my 550. I'm thinking about swapping it out. Not because I don't like it but I just want to try something new.
I'd like to have more punch without harshness. Any recommendations for punch/power without harsh highs or flabby lows? I play heavy prog stuff. What about a D-Sonic?

Re: Breed With More Punch
duncan distortion
rocks i think, put it in my 7 string carvin, and took the breeds out of an old jem and had them in it...i then went to evo for that jem, cuz the d distortions had too much sustain. and the evo breaks up ampos earlier in the harmonics
u can even get a x2n for all out tone and use it with a 500k pot volume and a 250k tone with a .04 cap....wire it in series.....and youll get a fat sound whats pretty clear, in parallel, wich most people wire the x2n its pretty ****ing hot, but in series its got more of a mellow paf sound to it, with a more distinct crisp responce
my 2 cents

you want more punch?
try a Norton/Air Norton or a Tone Zone/Air Zone

Re: Breed With More Punch
Punch meaning lows, or punch meaning output?
For the latter, I would get a Super 3. Similar EQ to the Breed, maybe a little less highs, but more compression and output.

Re: Breed With More Punch
I had a Duncan Distortion, I didn't think it was that great. I'm not a Duncan Fan at all. It's either Dimarzio or maybe Bill Lawrence.

Re: Breed With More Punch
What about a
Tone Zone
. The Breed seems very dark but smooth, I don't think it's a bad pup just to dark. Would the Tone Zone give a britghter 80's solo tone ala, Gilbert?

Re: Breed With More Punch
gilbert uses a tone zone, but i would never catagorize that pickup as 'bright'.

Re: Breed With More Punch
try using a breed with a black ice attached to it with a small toggle to bring it in the circuit or out

Re: Breed With More Punch
I'm going with a D Sonic 7 with my new 7 string and I KNOW it's going to sound good. I'd have to vote against the Tone Zone for you because you said you didn't want any flabby low end and I've heard the bass is kinda weird with that one. The D Sonic will still allow you to have bass but you won't have the mud.

hahaha
nah i know that the breed has more "warmth" than the evo but the evo has a more shimmery/attack like feel to it
i dont know what do say, maybe go with a duncan distortion, wich is actually similar in sound to the breed id say, but between then two, i kinda like the duncan.....
did u see that coming?

Re: Breed With More Punch
i actually don't think that the distortion sounds like a breed, or even a hopped up version. the distortion has lots of mids and highs with really balanced lows. the breeds i played were really round sounding. like an underpowered TZ with smoother lows and mids. the super distortion is more of the breed style eq, but with a tad more high end slightly less agressive mids and alot more output. so i would put that as a breed...with more punch!
