Bridge single coils for 7 strings
Lately, I've found myself leaning more towards a single coil sound (after series/parallel wiring my bridge tonezone - not quite there though).
I really like the sound Billy Corgan got on the track "Where Boys Fear to Tred" from the Mellon Collie album. As far as I know, it's a
Lace Sensor
original series red pickup, but unfortunately they don't make them in 7 string versions (although I've mailed them, I think I can predict their reply).
Is it perhaps possible to get two of the 6 string versions, and stagger them to cover all the strings?
Does anyone know of anyone who makes powerful single coils that cut like the Lace ones (and are QUIET like them also)?

I have a Tom Anderson custom wound single in the middle of my UV...they might wind a hotter one for you for a bridge...
Seymour Duncan
will make you a 7 string version of any model they have for the low price of one arm and one leg.
As far as actual
lace sensors
, I dunno.....but you can ask SD or TA what they have that's comparably EQ'd.
Good luck!

I thought about seymour duncan, but the lace pups use some sort of shielding material in their design to cut out the hum problems. Also, the red sensor's the best single I've heard so far - nice and thick.
It's times like these I wish more ppl played 7s....

Doesn't Rio Grande(sp?) make good 7
string pickups
.
I heard that they made the pickups for G&L.. could be wrong.

I took a look at Rio Grande, but I think they specialise in vintage sort of tones. What I'd really like is a 7 string Lace. I think a SD hotrails might be a close match perhaps....
... and why does everyone keep saying Duncan customs are so expensive? On their site, it states a custom 7 string pup is $140. I know it's twice the price of a Dimarzio, but it's not unreasonable if you get what you want. I'm not defending the company or anything, I just can't see the reasoning.
hmm.

lots of anti-SD sentiments on this site at times. I wouldn't worry about it. There are certian pups that cost as much as 230.00 for SD to make into 7 string versions. I wanted a hot stack in that version and that is what it would cost, however they said its cause of the way the 6 is made, but they could do a pole piece version for like 130.00. I don't think their prices are all that bad either. Opinions vary though.

In one of my guitars I have a EMG 35-TW. It's in the
neck position
, but it works in the bridge also. It compliments the 707 really well. The 35 actualy has 3 pickups inside its housing. A humbucker and a single. With the supplied push-pull volume knob, you get both sounds. Just pull the knob out and it goes into single mode.

I've got my JB hooked up for single/standard mode, but because of construction differences, only a single will cut like a single (magnets are aligned differently to humbuckers).
I think I'm going to not worry about the 7 string single and grab a fender with the lace sensors I like in there instead, but thanks for the info all.
