build a humbucker with two singlecoils - possible?
hi folks,
i just installed a new fender
lace sensor
sc in my strat (neck pos).
i now don't know what to do with the old pickup.
i wonder if it is possible to get a humbucker-pu with this one and my bride-pu, and how to connect it to my strat!
u know?

If i understand your post properly, you're asking if you can combine a single
coil pickup
with another single to make a humbucker?
In theory, yes, you can. However, i don't know why you would bother unless you have a sentimental attachment to a particular pickup. It would not be an easy job if you're inexperienced with such things, and the resulting pickup wouldn't fit a standard humbucker route. Humbucker coils typically aren't as wide as single-coil bobbins.

is it possible at all to install a this-way-constructed humbucker into my strat without other modifications?

What do you think? Modifications would most certainly have to be made to accommodate a pickup that's 2x the width of a standard single.
You'd have to do some re-soldering and cut a new hole in your pickguard, and very likely do some routing to accommodate a humbucker, unless your body is already routed for H-S-H or has a totally open cavity under the pickguard for the pickups.

Yes, you would have to re-solder the pickup to the switching, and if you want to have the ability to split it, you'd have to make further modifications.
It's pretty common sense stuff.

Not necessarily. You only need 4 conductors accessible if you want to split it. Otherwise, you just wire them up in series or in parallel depending on what kind of sound you want, and leave the middle wires permanently connected.

If you need more info, go to the library. There are several good books on guitar electronics.

I read an interview with
Eddie Van Halen
from about 1982 where he said he did just that, and that it sounded like "A heavy-duty Telecaster," and that it sounded great but wasn't something he would personally use.
