Buzzing

My RG produces an annoying buzzing noise when I'm not touching the guitar, but as soon as I touch the strings, tuners, FR, or knobs the buzzing goes away. I'm thinking it's a grounding issue? Any input on what I should try/check.

Re: Buzzing

Every guitar does this, the curcut is grounded on the strings and when you touch it, it is grounded on you so when you are playing, the curcuit is grounded and doesnt have that buzz.

similarly, you can touch the metal casing of you pedals or amp and ground the entire curcuit aswell

If its that annoying then you probably have to turn your distortion at least below 9 / 10

Re: Buzzing

I don't like noise gates, they cut off sustain and attack. I usually turn my volume knob down when not playing, so that gets rid of just about all buzzing.

Re: Buzzing

you chould shield you pickup cavities and control route with sticky foil and that would help cut it down a bit . it could also be caused by a bad setup , or interferance from other electronic devices . as said before all guitars do that to some degree .

^ Correct. If your axe is near your computer that'll almost certainly give some buzz.

Re: Buzzing

If your guitar is used, and the previous owner had a output jack replaced, it can be soldered wrong, I did on mine and it buzzed like a mother, but if its new, then it can be a phone, pc, or tv. Turn your gain down on your amp or pedal.

I think things like this are a little funny, since the curcuit is earth on the metal, your entire guitar is a big antenna for radition and if you take that advice, you might as well wrap your whole guitar up. If its really bad, turn your gain down and turn the monitor and tv off

well your amp can pickup radio stations too . My guitar has a killswitch which cuts all output from it and i still pickup a country music station it isn't as noticable but there .

shielding the control cavity helps but your right you can't wrap your entire guitar in foil , or always play in a room lined in a fine copper screen.

Properly used, they will not do that. Just look at Yngwie, he uses not 1, but 2 in his chain. Almost every popular guitarist uses them to some degree, theres also the HUSH systems which are great too.
