Can wiring issues cause a pickup to sound microphonic?

I recently installed a couple of pickups and they seem very microphonic. (When I tap on the volume, or tone knobs, or the body it transfers to a boomy sound though the pickups. I'm prety sure it will feedback like crazy at jam levels.)
The thing is it is both of them. The higher output pickup is proportionally worst. So this has me wonding if it is a wiring issue, or is microphonics strickly a pickup issue?

Loose pickup mounting was the problem. I had a couple of pickguard screws missing near the pickup (sad I know) and springs that had been cut short under the pickup adjustment screw. So both of those things made the pickup loose and noisy as hell.
