I just got Reaper and have been playing around with it.
Here are two tracks of the main section from Enter Sandman. Each was recorded twice, with two different distortion settings.
Each was recorded on the bridge pickup with volume and tone at 10 going directly from amp out to soundcard input. No effects or processing or anything.
One was done on an RT650 with an adler body and V8 pickup.
The other was done on an RG750 with a basswood body and an IBZ/USA F2 pickup.
Basically everything was the same on each track except the guitar.
Can you tell which is which???
