Capacitor on Volume Pot

Whats the purpose of the capacitor on the volume pot. I recently replaced my volume pot, and it broke, so I didn't carry it over to the new volume pot. What would be the effects of this?

Re: Capacitor on Volume Pot

A capacitor or a cap and a resistor are wired on a volume pot as a treble bleed circuit. What that means is as you roll down your volume control, you won't lose the highs. The result is a clearer tone.

Whether you will miss it or not depends on your ear and how much you mess with your volume control while you're playing.

Thanks for the information. Okay I will want to replace it then, because I use the volume to adjust the tone quite a bit.

Do you really need the resistor wired at the capacitor? I emailed dimarzio they say the resistor is not required.

The resistor is not required (I don't think Ibanez use them) it just changes the response of the treble bleed. As with most things it's a matter of choice.

That is correct. Ibanez doesn't use them but the tech that works on my guitars says he uses the Dimarzio treble bleed circuit which has a capacitor and a resistor. To be blunt, I have not opened up any of the guitars he's worked on. All I know is the treble bleed circuit works on those guitars. Conversely, I've opened and worked on my Ibanezes myself before and their treble bleed circuit is just a 330 pf cap.
