Chopper in middle position?

I notice a lot of people use dimarzio chopper in the middle position, usually it's combined with a pro track or air norton s in the neck.
What's the reason behind this?
In contrast, on any HSH guitar from Ibanez, the traditional combo is low output single coil in the middle position (Evo single, Jem single, blue velvet, etc.)

I did it in my rg350 only because I wanted it to be a three humbucker guitar.. and it looked cool : ). Sounded good blended with the Evo neck for cleans also.
