Chrome covers effect on sound.

So whats the deal? do those chrome covers you see on Les Paul's and SG's effect the tone of the pickup at all? Better off without them??

I've heard that it makes the pickup sound slightly warmer. But I'm not sure. I wouldn't think so, since the pole pieces are exposed.

it tones them down. what happens is the focus of the pole pieces is reduced over the span of the entire cover. effectively increasing the "field of view" of the pickup, but reducing the power of each pole piece for the respective string. i keep a few nickel covers around for cosmetics and tone experimenting and typically end up pulling them for one or both of those reasons...just as something to do.

I also heard that it drops the picky-highs a bit and warms it up, but granted I've never A/B'ed them myself.
