Cleaning Pole Pieces?

I got a used guitar and it has a bit of build up on the pickups. Can I use a Q-Tip with some cleaning solvent without damaging the pickup?

Re: Cleaning Pole Pieces?

I just emailed dimarzio concerning the same issue.

I have 2 PAF Pro's with very rusty pole pieces..
I asked if there is any possible replacements they can sell or send me.

If they cant..i plan on taking them out and leaving them
in Castrol super clean for a day which will get them in decent shape.

I'll let ya know what i find out.

Re: Cleaning Pole Pieces?

Update:

I emailed dimarzio late last night..and when i got on the computer this mornin there was already a reply from them.
They offered to send me replacement polepieces for free.

They offered to send me the original black ones for my PAF Pro's
or send me chrome ones that would be more durable.
I went with the chrome.

VERY cool customer service.
In the email they even stated the best way to change them out.
(one at a time)
Hope this helps.

Wow, dimarzio is nice!

I'll try the compressed air, but I don't think it will work...

Re: Cleaning Pole Pieces?

Just an update...
like i mentioned above I emailed dimarzio
about my rusty ol pole pieces.

I just got in the mail the promised replacements.
24 new chrome pieces...and they even put an allen wrench in with them.

Talk about killer service. I mentioned in my initial email to them it was for a 1989 jem.. 17 years old.. and they still didnt charge me a dime.

nice!

Re: Cleaning Pole Pieces?

on my RG1527 i noticed the pole pieces had picked up a lot of finger poo so i cleaned it all off and i actually preferred the tone of the dirty pole peaces! pristine isnt always best.

if you can notice the difference in sound between a clean pole piece
and a piece that has 0.0001mm of goop on it..
more power to you.

Re: Cleaning Pole Pieces?

I've had the pickup for 13 years, bought it bran new and was the first DiMarzio I ever bought, this is the 4th or 5th guitar its been in, been in both Florida and New England and its hands down my favorite pickup and best sounding pickup I ever owned. After the first few years the paint started to flake off and it began to rust and just never stopped. What you see is just the a-typical dust that pickups collect between string changes.
