Closest Dimarzio to SD Alnico II Pro

Can anyone tell me whats the closest sounding Dimarzio pickup to a Duncan Alnico II Pro? I don't know anything about SD pickups so I'm hoping someone can give me an idea of a Dimarzio that sound similar. This would be in a Les Paul.

Why not just buy the Duncan?

Perhaps I should add "before I go ahead and buy the Alnico II Pro anyway"?

the APH-1 is a pickup all its own, there's really no equivalent from DiMarzio. the air classic is pretty close but still not on the money

Good call on the Air Classic. At least from the description on Dimarzio's site, I can see where it might be similar. The tone chart showing T/M/B is probably pretty subjective, but that pickup is trying to get an Alnico 2 vibe.

The Dimarzio Virtual PAF is right there with the A2P. Dimarzio no longer manufactures it, though. You would have to find new old stock, or buy one used.

Re: Closest Dimarzio to SD Alnico II Pro

Thanks for that suggestion, man! So what it sounds like so far is that the Alnico II Pro is an attempt at something vintage sounding? I'm looking for a good pickup for a Les Paul, bridge and neck, and I see the Alnico II mentioned. Its a big plus to me that Slash used Alnico IIs, always loved his tone. I didn't know if the Alnico II was just moderate output of if it was inspired by vintage humbuckers.

It's both, inspired by vintage pickups with moderate output. I have a set in my main Paul and I can get away with GNR, fusion/jazz and even Alice in Chains.
