So I picked up an Ibanez RG321EX last weekend and can't believe how much I love this thing. £200 new and it was my favourite guitar in the whole shop, for those just wanting to read the question scroll to ***THE IMPORTANT PART***
So despite loving the playability and the electrics being better than I expected it's getting the following mods to make it what I want....and as expensive as all the other guitars it was cheaper than when I bought it
so the mods will be...
1. Change strings to DR Black Beauty 10's
2. Blacken fretboard with fiebings die
3. install seymour duncan blackout pickups
4. fit schaller black mini locking tuners
5. fit new nut (thinking earvana)
So my question is with the stock guitar it has typical RG control layout of vol, tone & 5-way set for tapping options.
Obviously by installing the active pickups I'm gonna loose the
coil tapping options so it got me thinking about the best way to utilise the guitar for what I want as I'd need to completely rewire for new switch pots with these pickups.
I primarily only use the pickups with tone on 10 and using volume to control input gain but sometimes also use the neck pickup with the toine rolled off for those sweet child/santana smooth lead sounds.
***THE IMPORTANT PART***
What I was thinking to do was rather than go the standard route there for and have 3-way H1/H1&H2/H2 with shared volume and tone pots I want to wire it so I keep the 5-way to give pickup options H1/H2/H1&H2/H1 tone rolled off/H2 Tone Rolled off and the either seperate volume controls for each pickup or a shared volume and killswitch.
I need to check firstly is this possible, my understanding is the tone pot is essential a blend pot with a capacitor between live and ground which filters the signal, rolling off the pot sends more of the hot signal through the capacitor, is this correct?
If so I was thinking I could wire the guitar so the switch has a capacitor hard wired in to give a fully rolled off signal, would this work?
I then need to know if this would work if this would work as the wiring schematic if I'm correct upt ill here (probably a long shot)
