D Activator-X Bridge Pup in RG1570

So I bought my boyfriend the D Activator-X Bridge Pup for our anniversary. He just bought a brand new RG1570 and needless to say, I'm bummed. The pup is too tall for the cavity/footprint!! It touches the strings. I was wondering if anyone had to route out the cavity/footprint to get it to fit or if there is anything else we can do. He really doesn't want to route it out, but seems to be left with no choice. Thanks for any help!!

Funny enough your boyfriend just asked the same question over at the dimarzio forum

To answer your question, very few people have ever had to route the cavity in a guitar with the exception of the guys that were looking to install the EMG 7 string pickups in an RG7 of some sort. Ibanez screwed up a batch of guitars and it looks like your boyfriend ended up with one from that batch.

Haha yeah that would be him alright. Yeah he said something about a batch of guitars. I wonder if that's why they went so much lower on the price with his specific guitar. So would it be best to take it and have it professionally fixed and installed you think?

I had too shallow a body once for the pups I wanted. I had a guy route it deeper, but he was a trusted pro.

Yeah he is going to have to get it routed out. But he got a PDF file from Dimarzio of all their pups with heights and all and he figured out the Tone Zone will fit, without having to route it out. He doesn't want to route it out if he doesn't have to.

Actually, the RG1570 has a block of wood glued to the middle of the humbucker cavities and rubber added to that...I had to route both of mine to fit most dimarzio pickups.

The DeActivator is also one of the taller pickups and does need routing
