Re: Did I really need F-spaced pup's with Edge Pro bridge?

Yes, regular non F-Spaced pups would have been a bit worse than what you got now. Nuno's pictures are great. As you can see, even F-spaced do not align perfectly. In terms of tone, I have not seen yet anybody factually demonstrating not having a perfect alignment causes any difference in tone.

Regarding the previous question, I think he meant "do not buy" those Duncans specifically. Cause quite frankly, if you're in the process of trying out pups, you must try the Bill Lawrence L-500s and the Dimarzio D-Sonic. At least. Great little widgets. I, myself, lean toward the DSonic.

Gus.

ive never tryed the D Sonic myself, but Petrucci uses it. The X2N is too gainy for me(no clean at all). The dimebucker is a bad attempt at replicating an L-500XL, which I use exclusively and love. I did mean don't buy the Dimebucker, soooo bright and tinny.

That's an interesting thing you've done with that sort of foam nuno...I tend to have problems with some neck pickup movement in my RG320...I'll try that mod

Nuno.... can you post a full frontal of this baby? Nice color/stain! I don't think I've seen one quite that color before.

it's a trick i've learned from Satch's tech Mike Manning. it prevents from squeals and pickups springs noises and buzzes, sort of, at high volumes and lots of gain of course. and yeah, if you pack a lot in there it can also keep your pickup from moving in place. check Manning foaming Joe's guitar HERE.

Re: Did I really need F-spaced pup's with Edge Pro bridge?

I found that dimarzio's F-spaced are not as a exact lne up as duncans tremspaced pups?
my dimarzio F pups all are not exactly lined up dead center like my duncans are!
turns out that a dimarzio F-spaced pup is 51 millimeters and the duncans are 53mm!
from dimarzio,
Our F-spaced pickups measure 2.01" (51 mm) center-to-center from the first polepiece to the sixth. Standard-spaced pickups measure 1.90" (48 mm). Although some players believe that F-spaced pickups are only for the bridge position of tremolo bridge guitars, many guitars with fixed bridges (including late 1990s Gibson Les Pauls and Epiphone LPs) should have F-spaced pickups in the bridge position. Most tremolo equipped guitars that have a nut width of 1-11/16” (43mm) or more should also use an F-spaced pickup in the neck position. If you’re replacing a bridge-position pickup and you're not sure what your string-spacing is, it's usually better to get an F-spaced model. It is not necessary for the strings to pass exactly over the center of the polepieces for best performance, but it is wise to avoid a situation where the E strings are sitting completely outside of the outer polepieces.

Re: Did I really need F-spaced pup's with Edge Pro bridge?

To the original poster:

I could be wrong, but.... judging by the picture you posted, it sort of looks like your 6th and 5th strings were installed on somewhat of an angle.

If you look at all the higher strings, they're going straight over the saddles, which allows them to go straight over the pole pieces. Now, look at the two lowest strings and look at their direction over the saddles; if you're looking down at the guitar, the string is angled more towards the top of the guitar rather than in a straight line.

That could be the reason why the strings are not lining up with the pole pieces, because they're not installed perfectly straight to begin with.

It does kinda look like that in the pics, but believe me its not the case. But thanks for bringing it up. Good eye.

Re: Did I really need F-spaced pup's with Edge Pro bridge?

Just need a confirmation here..
Did I get this right.....
F-spacing only affects the spacing of the pole pieces.
The actual physical dimensions of the pickup housing and mounting tabs should be similar between an f-spaced and non-f-spaced part.
