DiMarzio 7 String Pickups for Ibanez RG 1527 ?

Hello!
What pickups would you suggest for the Ibanez RG 1527?
My 6-strings have breeds,PAF Pro and Evo2.
I'd like to have an equivalent sound on the 7-string.
Any experiences?

The only bridge pickup that I've heard that I really liked on a 7 string is the Blaze Custom. Aside from that, I would go with an Air Norton 7 in the neck.

A Duncan JB-7 and '59-7/jazz-7 works well also.

What about the Blaze II pickup?
What is it? The Blaze Custom?

Has anyone heard the Evolution 7?

Is the sound of the classical Blaze combination of the Ibanez Universes old-fashioned or not well-balanced?

The Blaze II is the same thing as the Blaze. The Blaze Custom is a different pickup. I'll also vote for the Blaze Custom in the bridge and the Air Norton 7 in the neck.

There are lots of threads here about all of those pickups.

The Blaze and 'Blaze II' are the exact same thing. There really isn't a Blaze II at all, there was just some incorrect info printed in catalogues once upon a time and the issue got confused.
The Blaze Custom is a different pickup, with more highs and mids. DiMarzio's site has a fair representation of the differences between the two.

One of those 'always on' pickups. Good sound, not particularly versatile, though. Again, the DiMarzio site will give you a good idea of the frequency and power output. Can't think of a single person who swears by it, offhand...

Not at all. The Blaze neck is one of the absolute best pickups ever, IMHO. Clean and jazzy through a good tube amp it will make you forget your name. I think only a Bartolini 493 sounds better in the neck slot, but at twice the price. The Blaze bridge is a great bridge pickup as well, and versatile. The Blaze Custom is 'more', as it were. I don't think you can go wrong with a Blaze/Blaze setup or a Blaze/Blaze Custom setup.

Tone Zone for a Heavy Dark PAF sound in Bridge
Blaze Custom for a Balls to the wall Shred sound with more lowEQ mids
Blaze For Scooped to hell Shred sound with more top end,
Blaze Neck for more control (Think fred, in that low output pickup plugged into high gain amp)

Necks...

Air Norton all the way imho, tried and tested, nice open valvelike tone that stays clean and even pitch harmonics

Re: DiMarzio 7 String Pickups for Ibanez RG 1527 ?

i use the air norton7 and the blaze custom in my basswood 7620. it is killer. for my mahogany 7620 i use air norton7 and tone zone. i wanted the fatter meaner low end, but is still killer. the all of those pickups are just so ALIVE sounding. now, i have installed a blaze neck, and it does sound good. it's just not as organic as an air norton in my opinion.

So, umm.. does that mean you didn't get the 2027 for 800 bucks? If so, is it still available?

Yeah, right. But I wanted to have the 2027 and the owner didn't want to sell it anymore... bad luck for me!
