I would definitely check out any new 7 string singles dimarzio could offer. That strat looks pretty cool... do you have any sound bytes? Blaze single is one pickup i love to death...

Let me ask you guys this: Do you care about the string spacing? Dimarzio's string spacing on their Blaze singles is obviously the same as their humbuckers, because all they do is use a humbucker bobbin. Their 7-string bobbin is also F-spaced. A Strat single coil has a different spacing than a humbucker, and there are different Strat spacings. The vintage USA one is wider than the Asian ones.

Here is the reason I ask: When the Custom Shop makes a 7-string single coil that follows the exact dimensions of a Strat pickup (grown by one string) then it can be too large for a lot of the guitars that are out there. Some people have needed to dremel a little. If we used the same pickup cover that they use on all the existing Asian singles but fabricated our own bobbin/flatwork, etc. we could build a true single coil, including ground magnets, lacquered bobbin, etc.

But there's almost no justification for it. If I compare singles to HB's on the 6-string side, then superimpose that ratio over to the 7-strings, then it looks pretty good, but the problem is on the 7-string side, there are proportionately far less single coil slots out there. Hardly anyone has been building 7's with single coils, so there's less people out there who even would consider buying them.

Frank, this thread died, but did anything come of this? I'm after a set of 3 singles.

i'm sold... and it's been a long time since i've touched an SD pup.
The dimarzio "Custom7" single on my 1077xl isn't all that and my options for upgrading it is just a Blaze single; it's not like I can just order a "Custom7" single in green from DiMarzio
good job frank and SD for making it happen and algiman for the consultancy :P
speaking of colors... are the covers limited to just black? [even if it is, black is still a viable option for me :P]

But is it just me or is the SD site not very user-friendly? I can only find the Blackout 7 string pickups and nothing else except the press release for the new singles. Am I missing something? I looked all over.
