DIMARZIO 7 STRING SINGLE COILS, YOU WANT!? (Petition)

Ok so some have you might have seen my recent rant about Dimarzio not having 7 string single coils...Emailed Dimarzio and they told me there wasn't enough demand.

So if you want Dimarzio to start making 7 string versions of their single coils, please reply to this thread.

Definitely - it would be awesome to have more 7-string single coils - I love a single coil at the neck and don't play 6ers anymore.

what other options does a guy have if he wants 7 single coils?!!!! by investing in them, dimarzio could have the market cornered!!!

where and who else would you guys look at if you really wanted something other than a blaze 7??????

....maybe the bean counters at dimarzio are only interested in beans!!!!!!!

I've heard there are a few small pickup makers making 7SSCs, but the thing here is that I like the tone of the existing Area series single coils, hence... Im sure i'm not the only one.

Seymour Duncan will make any of their singles as a 7 string I believe, though it is custom order so a long wait. Rio Grande do 7's (I have a few and they're great). BKP used to but don't any more though they will rewind other 7's to their specs.

When I went through this I found that the Blaze sounds really good in the neck, but I was going for a more stratty tone at the time so it didn't fit the bill.

Actually it shouldn't be a very long wait, maybe 4 weeks max.

My question for you guys is: Do you want Seymour Duncan to make 7-string single coils? It would likely be limited to one, maybe two models, but they would be made in a traditional single coil manner, with Alnico rod magnets. Dimarzio's recipe has only been to use a HB bobbin, and sandwich two ceramic magnets beneath. This is the method used on the SDS-1, and also budget asian single coils with steel poles.

I need to know:
1. Do they need to have a plastic Strat cover, or could they be taped off, like the way a Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound looks?
2. Will you buy them?
3. No really, will you actually BUY them?

I'd love 7 string versions of their twin bladed single coil sized humbuckers... Like the Pro Track? Cruiser? Chopper? Though trying to have a single coil not mudd-ing out at the B string might be a challenge.

why not, but only if it's made like this:

i.e. half an humbucker, and not Fender style.

1. I'd rather have a proper strat style cover.
2. If they have a plastic cover, then most definitely (price dependant)
3. See above!

What models are you thinking of?

Re: DIMARZIO 7 STRING SINGLE COILS, YOU WANT!? (Petition)

Thank you. I don't know about models yet, and it might never happen, but SSL-1 & SSL-5 seem like a safe bet.

But there's almost no justification for it. If I compare singles to HB's on the 6-string side, then superimpose that ratio over to the 7-strings, then it looks pretty good, but the problem is on the 7-string side, there are proportionately far less single coil slots out there. Hardly anyone has been building 7's with single coils, so there's less people out there who even would consider buying them.

Re: DIMARZIO 7 STRING SINGLE COILS, YOU WANT!? (Petition)

I think there is a cause and effect debate to be had here.

There isn't much call for aftermarket 7 singles, because there aren't many 7's with singles. Perhaps if there were more great sounding single coils available builders would be more inclined to make 7 string guitars using them. Maybe, maybe not.

I modded an RG7 to be HSS using Rio Grandes, and I love the sound of a single coil in the neck position. The Rios are good, but not quite what I was after just the best I could find.

I'd also would love to build a 7 string strat style guitar SSS, and rather than Rio Grandes use something more David Gilmour esque.
