Dimarzio Air Classics?

Has anyone tried these guys out? Having heard they're a favorite of Paul Gilbert's now, I was curious to hear some opinions on them. They look like really interesting pickups, airbuckers with a mid scoop, and super low output.

Re: Dimarzio Air Classics?

I've got the Air Classic bridge in the bridge position of my Strat, and I just love it there. It's got a sort of 3D quality that's hard to describe, but is very cool.

Re: Dimarzio Air Classics?

For what it's worth, I've got a pair of 36th Anniversary Dimarzio PAFs in my LP and they're amazing. They sound great clean and dirty. I'm going to try out a bridge model in one of my PGMs.

The Air Classics are tempting and I may yet try them but the 36th Anniversaries are just a little more traditional as far as PAFs go which makes sense because they were designed to be like the original PAFs in Larry Dimarzio's 1959 Les Paul.

+1 on the PAF 36th, its the best pickup ive tried for ages, the neck is nothing short of near-perfection.
I was going to try the air classics myself but the 36th's are sooooo good.

Re: Dimarzio Air Classics?

I've got an Ibanez S2170 and the original dimarzio/ibz on that guitar is very similar to the dimarzio air classic bridge and neck (according to dimarzio). I like the sound of the neck pickup but the bridge is just too weak for me. Will probably replace it with an evo 2.

Re: Dimarzio Air Classics?

giannifive, how hard is it to get a good gutsy tone out of them, considering the low output?
