Re: DiMarzio AT1?

what's up Darin!?

I haven't installed one but I played an Andy Timmons model and really liked the pickup.

I remember reading all over the place that it's just a slightly modified version of a Breed Bridge model.

So you could theoretically get a Breed and get really close. In fact I have a set of Breeds that I really really liked for a few years but decided to rip em out a couple days ago.

Re: DiMarzio AT1?

You can order them direct from Larry, but it's double the price of a normal Dimarzio. Something like $120 or $130. I love Andy Timmons though, he's my absolute favorite guitar player.

And yeah, it's true that it is closest to the Breed pickup. There are some differences but with some tweaking of your gear you can get close to the AT1 sound with a Breed.

Why did you pull the Breeds out?

Re: DiMarzio AT1?

The funny thing is that the original AT100 prototype that he uses the most (has a broken piece of pickguard on the lower cut away) has a Duncan JB in it.

Apparently, the AT1 is a little bit less output compared to the Breed, along with whatever sonic tweaks there are.

Re: DiMarzio AT1?

Hm, I've hung out with Andy and been 3 millimeters from his AT100 proto and I don't think it's a Duncan...I'm pretty sure it's a custom wound Dimarzio that was made to be somewhat similar to the JB.

Also, I dont know if you guys know yet, but they're reissuing the AT100 . Exactly as it was, and not a small run of 300 either but a worldwide normal-sized run. News here:

Re: DiMarzio AT1?

The pickup may be changed now, but there are a couple of old pictures floating around that show a pickup that has seymour duncan written on it. He has also said in an interview (don't remember which) that the prototype had a JB and all others had the DiMarzio. He may well have had the JB switched out by now.

Re: DiMarzio AT1?

Why is/would the AT-1 sell for so much? Do they charge that much for Freds and Evos?

Re: DiMarzio AT1?

Because up until right now (I believe in a few weeks the AT1 will be available as a regular production pickup), getting an AT1 is considered a sort of custom order. Freds, Evos, Breeds, etc are regular production pickups so they charge the regular Dimarzio price, but if you were to want a pickup from a signature model that isnt offered as part of Dimarzio's regular selection they charge extra.

And I just double checked, you folks are right about the JB being the bridge pickup on Andy's AT100. I guess pups get swapped a lot so I never noticed it.

I've heard some clips of guys on youtube playing an AT300, and they sounded pretty darn good with the AT1. But your statement begs the question, why not sale the guitar the way Andy plays it? If he's not using an AT1, then they should change the Ibanez to what he does play.
